Sichuan Citizen Shanghai is one of the most well-loved Sichuan restaurants in the city. For those seeking mouth-numbing flavors, and authentic Sichuan cuisine, Sichuan Citizen cannot be missed.
Originally opened by Shanghainese Daisy Fei and her partner Mike Chang in 2008 on Donghu Road, Sichuan Citizen became an instant hit with both locals, expats, and tourists alike.
Daisy had the idea for the concept after visiting Sichuan for the first time. She fell so in love with the flavors of the food, she just had to bring a bit of it back to Shanghai with her.
The newest rendition of Sichuan Citizen is located in historic Ferguson Lane in Xuhui. Upon exiting the elevator at the second floor, guests will be greeted by a friendly host and hostess.
The red lights create a relaxing and intriguing mood and guests will notice the long bar with people enjoying some of Sichuan Citizen's signature cocktails, one of the most popular being the Basil Drop.
Foraying further into the restaurant, diners will feel at home. Exposed red brick, bamboo dividers, and traditionally inspired Chinese paintings surround each table.
Upon entering a cozy booth or roomy table, guests will be presented with an extensive menu, and all of the food is so delicious, you really cannot go wrong. Some of the crowd favorites include spicy green beans, mapo tofu, and Sichuan style eggplant.
