Shanghai Zhongshan Park is one of the city's major green lands that function as the locals' outdoor relaxation destinations on free entry.
The park was initially a private garden attached to Hogg Brothers' villa estate during the city's colonial age. In 1914, the municipal council of the concession zone bought the parcel of the garden land and converted it to a public park after a simple renovation completed, the garden's original name is Jessfield Park. In the following years till 1949, a series of expansions and constructions had added a couple of new facilities to the park, which includes a large lawn, an artificial hill, a kids-playground, a mini zoo, and a set of new landscape attractions accompanied with lush vegetation. Since 1949 when the People's Republic of China has been established, new rounds of renovations and constructions have made the park a compelling oasis that brings enormous tranquility to this buzzing neighborhood.
