Qu Shui Garden is an impressive classical garden situated in Qingpu district, with a distance of 40 kilometers to the downtown. It is one of the best five classical gardens of Shanghai represents the great arts and techniques in garden design and construction that survive from ancient China.

It is said the garden was initially built in 1745 with the special fund raised from locals by 1 penny per person, which gave the garden the original name "Yi Wen Garden 一文园", to commemorate this spontaneous contribution to the project.
In the year 1784, an expansion construction was given based on Yi Wen Garden's original site, adding a set of new landscapes such as a pond, an artificial hill, and a series of halls and pavilions.
14 years later, the garden was officially renamed "Qu Shui Garden" due to its position at the bow of a winding creek.
